University of Central Arkansas

Founded in 1907, the University of Central Arkansas is an excellent university that offers a variety of academic programs. The school also has a good athletics program. This includes men’s soccer, football, and volleyball.

In addition to athletics, the university has a robust student life program. This includes Greek life, a student run television channel, and performing arts groups. You can even join the campus chorus or participate in a radio show.

The campus is located in the heart of Arkansas’s largest city, but you’ll find a more laid back feel here than you might expect. A master plan was developed in consultation with architectural design firm Duany Plater-Zyberk & Co. Among the buildings on campus, three are on the National Register of Historic Places.

Taking the time to explore each building is well worth the effort. The campus is home to the Mary Ann and David Dawkins Welcome Center, which houses Admission and Financial Aid. You’ll also find the Trieschmann Building, which contains a dance studio and Staples Auditorium. The Mills Center, meanwhile, is where you’ll find several departments and a number of buildings that are home to the eponymous Mills Hall. The Bertie Wilson Murphy Building, meanwhile, is home to the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation.

Lake Conway

Located just a few miles southeast of Conway, Arkansas, Lake Conway is a popular destination for anglers. This six-hundred-acre lake is a great place to go for fishing, camping, and boating. It is also home to a nursery pond, which allows for millions of crappies to be stocked into the lake directly.

Catfish, bluegill, and bass are all plentiful in Lake Conway. Some of the best fishing is found around the cypress trees, brushpiles, and logjams.

Boat ramps are available at several public launch areas on the lake. You can also rent a boat for a few dollars at one of the many commercial docks. There are also handicapped-accessible fishing piers.

During the spring, the Crappie Master’s State Tournament is held on the lake. This event is free and open to the public. In addition, there is a free family festival called Toad Suck Daze.

The area is also a good deer hunting location. There is a small trial area for retriever training. There are also picnic areas and swimming areas.
