Main Street
Whether you’re planning a wedding or just looking for some fun and interesting places to visit, downtown Huntersville is the place to be. The city offers many cool hangouts, modern neighborhoods, and high-performing schools. It’s also home to more than 1 million square feet of spec office space. Huntersville is the 17th largest city in North Carolina. Its population grew to almost 25,000 in 2000, a jump of almost 16 percent. The town has been working on a multi-million dollar Main Street project for several years. It officially started on June 30. It is a major upgrade that will include widening of some of the streets and an undergrounding of electricity. This will make the area a mile long alternative to the traffic congestion on N.C. 115.
Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville
Located in Huntersville, North Carolina, Discovery Place Kids is a family-friendly museum that offers opportunities for children to explore their world. Lake Norman State Park
Located just a few miles north of Charlotte, Lake Norman State Park is a great place to enjoy outdoor activities. You can fish, boat, hike, and swim at this beautiful lake. There are more than 30 miles of hiking trails, making it a great destination for both families and nature lovers.
In the spring, you will find a great variety of flowers. You can also take a ranger-guided hike at 10 a.m. on the 0.8-mile Alder Trail.
Summer can be a hot time in the area, but you can escape the heat by enjoying one of the many water sports. You can rent paddle boards, canoes, and SUPs at the visitor center. The boat rental fee is $10 per hour.
The lake offers a variety of fish, including catfish, crappie, and perch. You can purchase fishing licenses from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
Torrence Creek Greenway
Taking a ride on the Torrence Creek Greenway is a surprisingly pleasant experience. It has a fair amount of greenery and many access points to surrounding neighborhoods. It is also an ideal location for your family to unwind. You can even bring your favorite wheeled riding toy along for the ride.
A short segment of the greenway is actually a boardwalk that meanders through wetlands. The other half of the coin is a 300-foot-long pedestrian tunnel that carries you over Torrence Creek. While it is not the longest trail in Charlotte, the pedestrian friendly trail system provides an excellent corridor for non-motorized transportation. It also boasts an impressive set of features.
A slew of smaller trails are also found around the neighborhood. For instance, the Toby Creek Greenway extends for a surprisingly long 2.64 miles from W. Rocky River Rd to W. Kirk Farm Fields Community Park.
Historic Latta Plantation
Located on Lake Wylie in Huntersville, North Carolina, Historic Latta Plantation is a historic site that is part of Latta Nature Preserve. This 55-acre historic site was once owned by Crescent Land and Timber Corporation, a subsidiary of Duke Power Company. Latta Plantation hosts special events and educational programs year-round.
The site offers guided tours of the Latta family home. Children under 5 are free. Adult tickets are $7. Self-guided tours are also available.
In addition to the Latta family home, the site features cabins and outbuildings. There is also a visitor center that tells the story of the Latta family. Latta Plantation also offers five themed summer day camps.
The site has been managed by a non-profit organization called Historic Latta Place, Inc. since the 1970s. A group of citizens recognized the historic significance of Latta Place and formed a private, non-profit organization to save it.
