Jollyville Texas – A Growing Suburb of Austin

Located on the northern edge of Austin, Jollyville is a community that has a population of around 16,151 as of the 2010 census. It is situated in Travis and Williamson counties. In 2010, Jollyville was annexed into the city of Austin.

Population

Located in Travis County, Jollyville is a small but growing town. The city is 18 miles north of Austin. Its climate is characterized by mild to cool winters, and warm to hot summers. Its population is made up of mostly immigrants.

The Jollyville name is derived from John Grey Jolly, who was one of the founders of the town. He operated a blacksmith shop and donated land for the first school.

In 1940, Jollyville had forty inhabitants. The area was lightly settled for decades. In 1903, a school was built in the town and merged with the Pond Springs school.

The Jollyville name may be a misnomer, though. In fact, Jollyville was annexed by the city of Austin. The Jollyville sign is a bit of a dud.

Despite its small size, the city is home to plenty of attractions. The Aynesworth-Wright House, a historic Texas estate built in 1852, is a few miles southeast of the town. There are many other interesting things to see in the area, including the Jolly cemetery, where five citizens of the Republic of Texas are buried.
