The refuge is also working with Texas Parks and Wildlife to open hunting next year. The hunting program will include a youth hunt, archery and firearms hunts.
The refuge is a great place to go hiking, hunting or fishing with the kids. It’s only an hour away from Tyler and Longview and two hours from Dallas and Shreveport.

4. Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary
Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary is a nonprofit animal sanctuary that provides a safe and loving home for tigers, lions, cougars, leopards, bobcats and arctic foxes. They are completely run by volunteers and 100% of donations go to benefit the animals at the ranch.
The sanctuary’s mission is to help rescue exotic animals from dangerous situations and to educate the public about their plight in captivity. The current residents include lions, Siberian tigers, spotted and black leopards, bobcats and cougars.
During your visit, you can take a guided tour and get up close to the big cats. You can also try a night feeding tour, which allows you to watch them be fed their evening meal!
