Located in the piney woods of East Texas, Marshall is an exciting small town that’s full of charm. From the downtown area to its interesting museums, great shops, and delicious restaurants, there’s something for everyone here!

One of our favorite spots in Marshall is the Michelson Museum of Art, which features the works of Latvian American artist Leo Michelson. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon and learn about local history.

Bear Creek Smokehouse

For 77 years, Bear Creek Smokehouse has specialized in Premium Smoked Meats. They believe in creating smoked meats without compromise, focusing on the “old-fashioned” way of hickory smoking.

Located on a 43,000-square-foot general store, the family-owned business is committed to bringing you quality cured pork, beef, and chicken products. The Shoults have been raising and curing their own meat since 1943.

Their salesroom presents a down-home country atmosphere, accentuated by the family’s next generation of traditional values. Stop by to grab a plate of brisket, a burger, or a sandwich made with Bear Creek’s delicious meats.

The Smokehouse also hosts events such as their annual Cookin’ at the Creek BBQ Cook-Off. The weekend includes live music, a barbecue competition, and a chance to feed longhorns.

Caddo Lake

Caddo Lake is a hugely popular tourist spot, and for good reason. It is a beautiful and natural lake that offers a vast variety of activities and attractions for all ages.

There are a number of things to do around the lake, from fishing to sightseeing boat tours to hiking trails. There is also a great variety of wildlife to see.

You can also visit Caddo Lake State Park, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. This park has a recreation hall and several cabins to rent.

If you’re looking to get out on the water, the best thing to do is to hire a tour guide to take you out on the lake. You can find a few different tour options, but our favorite was Captain Ron’s Swamp Tours. He takes you on a tour that lasts about 90 minutes and gives you a great view of the lake.
