Quiet Dell School
During the Great Depression, the Quiet Dell School served the community. The school was a wood frame structure with a hipped and gable roof. It was designed for grades one through six. The school was also a place where speech therapy, special education classes and living skills training were offered.
The Quiet Dell School was established in 1922. The first administrator of the school was Harriett Cookman. In 1953, the school was expanded to include two additional classrooms and a kitchen. It is a listed historic building on the National Register of Historic Places.
The West Virginia Civilian Conservation Corps Museum is located in the old Quiet Dell Schoolhouse in Harrison County. The museum is dedicated to promoting the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The museum showcases photographs of the CCC camp, tools and materials used by the former enrollees, and the camp’s accomplishments. The museum is open to the public on Monday through Saturday, with the exception of July and August.
