Kirby TX – An Upscale Suburb of San Antonio
Located in San Antonio, Kirby TX is a suburban community that was originally an agricultural settlement along the Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1955, it was converted into a suburban community. Today, the community is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Old Town
Originally a small farming community in Bexar County, Kirby is now a thriving urban community. The city is situated eight miles west of Randolph Air Force Base and three miles east of Ft. Sam Houston Joint Case. The city is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan statistical area.

Springfield Manor

The neighborhood is also home to a number of excellent schools, including the San Antonio College campus, located less than a mile away. The school’s motto is “Education for all”, and the collegiate community is dedicated to teaching and mentoring young men and women to be productive members of the community.
Rosillo Creek
Located in eastern Bexar County, Kirby is an upscale suburban area that boasts some of the best schools in the county. The city was first settled by German immigrants in the early 1900s. The area is also home to a number of colleges including the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, the Austin Community College District, and the Saint Edward’s University. The Kirby Police Department is based at Ackerman Road, and the Kirby Municipal Court is on Bauman Street.
Kirby is also known for its pecans. Pecan trees produce large amounts between September and November. The Rosillo Creek that flows through the city was once an irrigation channel for farmers.
A multi-million dollar flood control project has been completed in Kirby. The project reduced the floodplain by 80 percent. The flood control scheme is part of Bexar County’s flood control program, which also includes the HALT system, a warning system for low water crossings, and other drainage projects throughout the county.
Public transit
Using public transit to get around can be a helpful option for many people in Kirby, Texas. The area is home to many residents who don’t drive or who live in neighborhoods that aren’t easily accessible by cars.

Colleges near Kirby
Luckily for the residents of Kirby, Texas, this quaint little city on the hill is part of the greater San Antonio metropolitan area. In fact, it’s a hop, skip and a jump from the city center to the Alamo. It’s also in the middle of the Texas Tech and Texas A&M University campuses, and is home to the largest military base in the state. During the 1950s, Kirby’s population shifted from farming to military duty. The two-year drought of 1957 did its part, as many farm fields were left fallow.
Kirby is a sleepy little town, with a population of about 8000. Fortunately for the town’s residents, the city’s most noteworthy perks include low cost higher education options and one of the city’s three major airports, the aforementioned San Antonio International Airport.
